Island Marina continues to make progress with the manual removal of invasive Himalayan Blackberry, with approximately 1 acre of blackberry removed to date. This year saw the quick return of a variety of flowering plants in the freed up areas. Encouraged by the prospect of returning native plants — our first natural growth test area was established. The result was a great success, and the bounty of flowering wild plants proved a popular hang-out for snakes, frogs, and numerous species of bees and birds. Now with the recent input form the Scappoose Bay Watershed Council (SBWC) — a customized selection of native plants will be added to the natural growth test area. Special thanks to SBWC for the on-site consult — with the customized native plants for Sauvie Island made possible by the Scappoose Bay Watershed Council – Fall Native Plant Sale.
